All the best spots to admire the beauty of spring as the city blooms this season. Some are a lot closer than you think!
It’s springtime – the bare, naked, trees suddenly transform into shades of pink, from a pale baby pink to a bright crimson and every shade in between. It’s beautiful and I get it – you want to take 1,000 photos and share them with your friends!
I’ve picked out all my best floral moments off my Instagram feed & I’m sharing exactly where I got each of these pictures!
So here’s where to find the best blooms in the city.
A garden
This one sounds so obvious, but is such a good place to start! Most cities have public gardens of some sort and you’re bound to find some gorgeous blooms in springtime. The Auckland Botanic Gardens have a dedicated space for the colours of spring – the spring valley. You can walk under a beautiful canopy of cherry blossom trees – in fact, my most-liked instagram picture is from this spot exactly! Other great places in Auckland are the Domain Wintergardens, Parnell Rose Gardens, Eden Gardens or Highwic Gardens.
wander the suburbs
It’s one of my favourite things to see the flowers blooming in people’s gardens. Wander around your neighbourhood – go for a walk around the block and see what you discover. One of my favourite portraits from spring 2018 was taken beside the footpath. This gorgeous flower bush was blooming through the fence of the house and made for a great backdrop!
go for a drive
Keep your eyes peeled when you’re on a drive! This works best if you’re the passenger of a car – if you’re driving, keep your eyes on the road! Wherever you’re going, keep a look out for wildflowers along the side of the highway. On a holiday in Taranaki, I was amazed at all the flowers lining the sides of the road and insisted that we stopped for a picture. I’m so glad we did.
YOUR LOCAL PARK
In New Zealand, we are blessed with parks – you’re never far from an open greenspace. Did you know that Auckland has over 3,000 local parks across the region?! It would take 10 years to visit them all if you visited one a day! Spring is a great time to head to your local park – or perhaps discover a new one. You never know what will be blooming – cherry blossoms, daffodils, roses, wild flowers?
YOUR BACKYARD
What’s blooming you your yard this spring? Some of the prettiest spots are right at home. I was obsessed with the daisies that spring up at my place and stuck around until summer. If you don’t have anything spectacular in your backyard, perhaps this is the year to start a garden! Plant some bulbs to bloom in summer, or even a tree to bloom next spring!
YOUR OWN HOME
Why leave spring outside? Bring your favourite flowers into your home instead. Head to the florist and pick out a bouquet or even visit your local supermarket or dairy for some student-friendly prices!
I hope you loved each of these ideas and I can’t wait to see your pictures as you chase the spring blooms this year – tag me on instagram! I know I’ll be chasing them too!
xoxo
